  • For anyone who might be coming over to ask Lyra stuff, she's currently having internet trouble specifically on Wikia, and reached out to me via another platform and asked me to deliver the message below:

Hi, everyone! I'm sorry to say that I've been having connectivity issues with Wikia for a while, and I don't know when they will be fixed. Therefore, I will be inactive, or much less active, for a while (hopefully not too long). I'll be active again once the problem is fixed! If you have any questions, please refer to another Admin or leave a message on my wall so that I can get to you later.

    Best regards, Lyra

So yeah, until she replies to update the status, she's more or less currently unavailable at the moment.

  • Hey there! I think I'm done with sorting the duplicate fan arts; can't be exactly sure cuz there's still a bit hard to not get confused when scrolling back and forth; you can simply change my group to "Content moderator" instead of "Admin" this time, I think that user group should be able to work most scripts I'm using, and the perks for now is that Wikia still hasn't bother to give them the user tag like other user groups, so people wouldn't recognize them as authority figures of sort lol. You won't have to constantly change my user group every time something needs to be adjusted with some handy scripts I'm able to use, and that user group can't interfere with MediaWiki pages so you don't have to worry that I overstep the boundaries.

    • Hi Sammm!

Thanks for fixing the issue with all the duplicate images (or most of them, since you're not sure xD), but I can't seem to change your user rights. In fact, I don't have access to them. The link "user rights management" after clicking "Contributions" isn't even there anymore. I checked to see if it would be the same with Grace's account, but it wasn't; the link was there. So I'm not exactly sure what the problem is....

        Loading editor
    • Are you unable to access via directly the link? Special:UserRights

I know I'm seeing some people saying there's some problems with that, but I'm able to see the function on the wikis I do have rights, so I'm not sure if it's still an existing issue in some communities; if the page isn't showing up properly, you might have to use Special:Contact and report the situation.

        Loading editor
    • The Special:UserRights link came, and it worked! I was able to search your username and set you as "Content moderator", but the link I was looking for before still isn't there. I guess I'll just report the situation.

        Loading editor
    • I've actually never used the way you were describing and always sticked to the direct link method bahaha. I'll work on the batch-delete soon because before that I want to make sure I get the grasp of better file names first. It'll probably be done by next week; just letting you know.

  • Hi there Lyra, I honestly still don't know how in-depth your "Wikia common sense is", so I would like to share a crucial pointer that I myself was given by more experienced users and just basically pass on the same info whenever I see anyone that's still uploading files in .jpg (or its variants such .jpeg, .JPG etc.) There is a reason why there's absolutely NO NEED for uploading a redundant scaled-down aka condensed/suppressed files of smaller dimension, as .PNG would be able to handle displaying the image in relatively the same quality regardless how small it's shrunken in thumbnails, whereas .JPG would produce a really low-quality like image when it's scaled down, despite how quality the original file may be in that file type. The .JPG scale-downs usually include bad compression... While this article, wikipedia:Lossy compression, proves that theoretically .JPGs should also be able to produce a nice reduced version, whatever method Wikia is using did not make that happen. The examples I can think of so far are:

Now, even if you decided that .JPG is acceptable, that is fine, too, however, that's actually not a reason for uploading duplicates because the former ones are low-res; as long as it's the same file type, you can always use the "Upload a new version of this file" function located on each file page, that ways, the history of the previous uploader would be shown as well. For examples (be sure to click on the "File history" tab):

So just make sure that in the future, if you ever feel like something had to have a higher quality replacement, properly replace it instead of uploading a new file. And if it's like the case here where you do choose to preserve quality therefore having to upload as separate files, that is inevitable, but if not, I'm just being the bossy me, hoping you do know all your options.

As for scripts, even though the batch-delete may not be in demand, there's another super handy script that would absolutely help what you described: a rename-and-auto-update script, that not only will self-explanatorily rename the files, but also automatically renamed the file names on the pages that's using the file. A recent example can be seen at w:c:lunarchronicles:Special:RecentChanges:

I didn't have to do those "automatic" edits manually. When you look at it as just renaming a file, that sounds simple enough without requiring the script, but if you are talking about multiple images each featured on multiple articles, it can be rather tiresome to have to go in the article and changing the image to the renamed title.

    So there's that.

    • Hi! You know, maybe I was just impatient with the loading, but not really (my internet is not always the best xD) but I'll try to upload .png as much as I can. I've been trying to, anyway (not a lot though).

By "I wouldn't mind deleting them all and starting over since there aren't that many..." I meant that I wouldn't mind deleting the pictures which are used in the articles (which are only a few) so I wound't have the trouble of deleting duplicates or anything. I think that's what I'm gona do, spescially since I'll replace and rename files. But I'm fairly confident that what I plan to do with the image files will be all okay...hopefully. No seriously, I know what I'm doing. (I think) xD

As for the script, there is no problem at all! :D I as actually worried you would give it to me cause I was pretty sure I would mess up using it! Besides, the script doesn't seem very necessary, as the task of "fixing" the pictures is doable without it. Also, thanks for the fishing example, I aprecciate the time it took you to write that wonderful simile lol xD So no worries, there is absolutely no grudge here! Only relief! xD

I don't have a Goodreads account, but I'm gonna make one now that you mention it. (I'm comfortable with sharing it xD) So I'll add you as a friend and prove that it's me whever I have the time to make the account (probably tomorrow)

      -Thanks!

Also, how did you make the background, well, not interactive, but you know, make it "motion-ful" like a gif? Something to do with CSS, I'm guessing, but I'm probably wrong :P

Um, I'm actually uncertain what you mean, cuz as far as I'm aware of, the background of IW is just a really regular image. However, if you are talking about the "snow" effect that I happened to coincidentally remove yesterday, that is done via .js using import. You can see that by removing the import script (http://inkheart.wikia.com/wiki/MediaWiki:Common.js?diff=prev&oldid=10446), the wiki now does not have snow falling. If this is not what you are talking about, I'm afraid you'll have to elaborate a little more for me to understand... sorry lol.

Also, in the hope/main page ofthe LW, the second slide in the slider gallery, which is for Legend, I can't seem to get rid of the "|" in front of Legend! It's supposed to be there, and in the classic editor there is only one, nothing extra, so I'm not sure why it doesn't go away....So I was wondering if you could maybe check it out when you have the time? I'd appreciate it. :D

Ahh, I looked at the code and for that specific image where the slider got something additional, is:

cropped.jpg|Legend|linktext=Discover more about the book that started it all!||link=Legend
And the cause of the extra is:
cropped.jpg|Legend|linktext=Discover more about the book that started it all!||link=Legend
You had an extra "bar", and that's what's showing. Remove it and theoretically it should be fixed.

    • Since I still have the file, I added to the main page before anyone can upload it under a bad file name. This wiki was actually one of the wikis I was going to suggest Lucian to ask for affiliation, so I hope that's alright. Pretty sure I've told either you or Grace that I basically think the more affiliates the better. If not then well... =P

  • Hi there Lyra! Just want to ask what exactly the purpose of doing the redundant change of url is? Again, I know you mean no harm, but on the other hand, it really was not a necessary change; I mean, I'm glad that it didn't break anything (like the links surprisingly still work), but the point is, all url are lowercase to begin with. It is rather distracting when that's not even gonna show on the page, as an editor, for me, it actually messes with my brain, which is why I'm talking to you about it and hopefully it won't happen again.

      Loading editor
    • Hi Sammm!

There wasn't actually any purpose for what I did, I just wanted to make the separate words clear to see, because when you hover over the logo/link, you're able to see. But I just did it for...nothing really, just like that xD I won't do it again though, as it is seemingly useless. Sorry if it messed with your brain xD

        Loading editor
    • w:c:****** is just a wiki-text way of converting http://******.wikia.com so it's more conveniently in a shortened form; for example, people would hardly ever write the url of this wiki as http://ShatterMe.wikia.com. On a browser, it's most likely always going to be displayed as http://shatterme.wikia.com; hence w:c:shatterme and not w:c:ShatterMe. Wikia as far as I'm aware of only offers lowercase as option for the domain name; the hover was never meant to indicate the content/subject of the link (that's what the logo should tell people), but to point out where the click will bring you to. That's why I'd say, perhaps not the majority, but for people who do know to look for the domain name, they would actually be puzzled by the uppercase, because it's just not expected to be used like that. I hope it's okay for me to change it back if I ever get to edit that page?

      • Sorry about the constant typo and reediting this message.

  • Hey, Lyra! Sorry I haven't been up with you in a while. I'm here to only ask if it's a lot of pressure to be in charge of so many wikis (I saw you have become admin on several). Do you think you can handle ALL of those wikis, or is it too much. Will you have the time to make suitable and regular edits on EACH wiki? I feel like it would be a lot of work?

      Loading editor
    • Hi Grace! Well, not at all actually. Furthermore doesn't have anything to work with, I'm slowly improving The 13th Reailty Wiki because I read the books a while ago and I forgot the details. Furthermore Wikia doesn't have anything to work with, and I love The Maze Runner Wiki and I'm not the only Admin there. I modify them everyday and improve mainly on The Maze Runner and Shatter Me articles. I requested an adoption request for Legend Marie Lu Wiki because there is a lot of spamming and mainly because there is no active Admin there (or on any of the wikis with which I am Admin in other than The Maze Runner Wiki). It doesn't need too much work.

  • Do you play video games? I'm just wondering, because you seem like a competent editor who would be a great addition to a gaming wiki.

If so, what console? What games are you looking forward to?

      Loading editor
    • Well, yes I do play videogames! I currently play Nintendo 3Ds and PS3. I used to have the older versions of Nintendo, as well as a Gameboy, and I also used to have an Xbox. I play on tablets as well. I've recently heard of "No Man's Sky" and I think it looks pretty cool, as does "Mirror's Edge Catalyst" even though I am not sure what it is really like, just going by concept and looks for this one. I play "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception" on PS3 so I'm really looking forward to " Uncharted 4: A Thief's End" which will come out this year. I really like Lego games, I used to play Harry Potter Lego and Indiana Jones Lego on the PSP. And since I'm a huge fan of MARVEL, I look forward to all MARVEL videogames, like the "Lego Marve's Avengers". The main videogames which I really, really love and mainly play are: The Legend of Zelda, Pokemon, Professor Layton, and Mario Brothers (love Luigi's Haunted Mansion!). So, of course, I look forward to the upcoming Zelda game this year and the future pokemon games. I haven't heard of any new Professor Layton games, but I'm hoping for the best! I obviously love puzzle games. Their a fave genre of mine! "The Witness" is a game I also recently heard about, which I can only play in my computer since I don't have the other platforms. Their are a lot of games (new games, mostly) I am unable to play since I don't have the right console, like "Final Fantasy XV", "Star Fox Zero", "Scalebound" (which looks awesome), and so on. I am not a big fan of playing videogames on the computer, but I would definitly for games such as "Hitman" (Haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm dying to!) and "Dishonored" (which I also heard about rather recently.) I play "Asphalt" on my tablet (favorite and best game I have!). I also play Plants vs. Zombies and other stratedgy games I don't remember because it was a while ago and I had to delete them (like "The Layton Brothers"). Oh,and I almost forgot! I am so excited fo the new game  "Unravel"! It is such a nice, eccentric concept which looks so nice! This is a game I will definitly play onthe computer!! It's safe to sat that is the game I most look forward to (along with The Legend of Zelda, which isonly on WiiU!) Don't really know what "Dragon Quest Builders" is, I only heard of it because it's play-able on PS3. I've heard about a couple of other videogames for this year, but I don't really know much about them. I only heard of Ratchet and Clank because the movie is coming out. On Xbox, I played Skylander's, which was my favoite Xbox game. I recently got "Assassin's Creed" for the PC, but I haven't played it yet. I know I might sound like a nerd or geek or all-time gamer but I don't actually play all that much (I read and write and daydream more to be honest). Especially with school and everything. You probably wouldn't even think of me as a gamer if you met me! XD Anyway, do you plan on making a gaming wiki? Have you already? Are you looking for users who could help?

  • Lyra, I swear I'm trying not to sound like a prick, but honestly, there's only less than 50 pages to check on this wiki, and you can view them all at Special:Allpages. Please DELETE that supremely SPAM page you've just created. Did you even check the contents of Shatter Me series? That's effectively what the page is for. I have a script to rename and automatically update links, I was going to use it on that page as well, but man, please stop doing edits like this because it feels like you are doing it to gain badges (adding category part).

You know what? Since it's going to take me a while to finish marking all the duplicate images, and since there is at least something in Category:Candidates for deletion; you mind jus quickly change my user rights (to admin) and I'll demonstrate how fast the script works? After it's done I'll notify you and you can remove the right, and I'll go back to just continue marking images.

  • You've told me you find some of the images redundant before; please refrain from uploading images that serves little purpose yourself (with extremely bad file name no less); the image with the trilogy's covers could have easily been mimicked by putting their respective images side by side; similar stuff could be done for showing square images with the author's photo. They are altered images of existing ones. Do try to set up a good example on a wiki you are taking care of.

You could perhaps start deleting the specific two I'm talking about. Just saying. I'm marking the ones that were here before you girls came along, the recent ones would be the last to get marked, so you might as well delete them yourself if you have the time. (I'm only asking you to delete the ones you are responsible for, not the rest)
